BLOG SERIES // PART 1 // WHAT WOULD YOU DO?

What would you do for Jesus if you weren’t scared?
It’s not one of those emotive clichés that are sometimes used to make things more powerful... it’s an honest question, what would you do for Jesus if you weren’t scared?
Scared, am I scared? Don’t I already do stuff for Jesus?
These were the thoughts I had when first asked that question. However after meeting a lady by the name of Helen Berhane my view on this statement changed forever!!!
I remember standing outside a church on a freezing cold August morning getting more and more nervous that the soul reason for me being at the church had not arrived yet... Helen Berhane, an Eritrean Christian who had been imprisoned for 2.5yrs in a shipping container, was due to arrive this morning and speak to the congregation – complications with her VISA had resulted in her missing one flight and now being scheduled to arrive a matter of hours before this event.
45 awkward minutes later a car pulls into the driveway and out steps one of the most stunning people I’ve ever seen: tall, elegant and spiritually confronting, even her eyes feel like they can see straight through you with this spiritual fine tooth comb but her presence and smile are among the most infectious things I’ve ever seen.
We quickly introduce each other then walk straight into the service and begin preaching... and that’s where this story begins.
Over the next few weeks I’m going to go through some of the life lessons and insight that I received from Helen – insight that has given the statement ‘what would you do for Jesus if you weren’t scared?’ a whole new meaning and far more significance than ever before, lessons that have encouraged, inspired and made me stronger in my faith and less worried about what others “might” think about me being a Christian.
My hope is that as you come along for this ride you too will find the real value in Jesus and the boldness to proclaim Him in your everyday life!
